Dr Yameen Qureshi is a Consultant Psychiatrist based in Glasgow, dually accredited in General Adult Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry, and an accredited civil expert witness preparing medico-legal reports for solicitors across Scotland. He is on the specialist register held by the General Medical Council and approved under Section 22 of the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 as having special experience in the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorder.

Medico-legal experience

Dr Qureshi carries out approximately 150 medico-legal assessments each year, instructed by pursuers and defenders alike. He has undertaken medico-legal training through the Royal College of Psychiatrists and has passed all University of Aberdeen–Bond Solon expert witness training modules, holding the Certificate of Accreditation as a Civil Expert Witness awarded in 2021. He is listed in the Law Society of Scotland Expert Witness Directory.

He has provided reports and given oral evidence to courts, tribunals and statutory regulatory bodies, including the Nursing and Midwifery Council, the General Medical Council, the Mental Welfare Commission and representatives of the Scottish Government. He undertakes consultations with counsel prior to proof, and prepares reports for the insurance industry, occupational health services and professional regulators.

His clinical experience covers all aspects of adult psychiatry, with a particular interest in psychiatric injury, alcohol problems and substance misuse. That clinical work underpins the medico-legal opinion offered across the practice's areas of expertise, and the practical arrangements for assessment are set out under instructing and locations.

Independence and duty to the court

Reports are prepared on the basis that the expert's overriding duty is to the court or tribunal, not to the instructing party. Instructions are accepted from both sides of the profession, and every instruction is preceded by a conflict check against previous treating and reporting involvement.
